March 25th, 2008 New Releases

New albums from Gnarls Barkley, The Raconteurs, Silver Mt. Zion...

Lots of new releases this week. My personal pick of the week is Silver Mt. Zion's "13 Blues for Thirteen Moons." Also worth noting is that we've been seeing a lot of used vinyl coming through lately, including albums from the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, Cream, and more. And remember, we're always looking for used CDs and LPs - cash or trade!

Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Jack White's other band. The release of this album was announced 8 days ago. Already getting rave reviews.

Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
Following the worldwide, unparalleled critical acclaim for 2006's St. Elsewhere and their record breaking hit Crazy, new album The Odd Couple, the album features 13 tracks of new material from Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green. The first single Run has been met with rave reviews, and The Odd Couple is without question one of the most anticipated releases of 2008.

Guilty Simpson - Ode to the Ghetto
Debut album for Guilty, introduced to the public by prominent features on: J Dilla "The Shining" & "Ruff Draft", Stones Throw/Adult Swim "Chrome Children" & Four Tet Remixes.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tr-La-La Band - 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons
Brand new recording of the full band (two guitars, two violins, cello, cotrebasse, and drums) has grown louder, looser, full of spittle and tears. Custom hardstock packaging, printed on recycled (100%) fine paper and includes lyrics as part of the insert booklet.

Pennywise - Reason to Believe
9th studio album from these punk heroes represents a bristling return to the roots of their unmistakable sound.

Cursed - Three
Long hailed as one of the loudest bands around, Cursed have finally returned with the long awaited and much anticipated "III." Cursed leaves no mystery as to what they are trying to accomplish with the new album, starting with the blast beat of "Night Terrors" and into the churning stoner grooves of "Friends In The Music Business," it is clear this record is meant to hurt people. This is a much more violent and concise effort with songs woven together leaving little room left for the listener to recover, let alone breathe.

Excepter - Debt Dept
The fourth record from this electronic performance group devoted to the destruction of boundaries between the psychic friends network and reality television. Lead tracks are "Burgers" and "Kill People".

Lair of the Minotaur - War Metal Battle Master
The third full length from the most brutal band out of Chicago is a concept album about resolving conflicts with a big axe! The songs are a mix of thrashing aggression and mega-riffage mixed with a new emotionless ferocity.

Good Riddance - Remain in Memory; The Final Show
On May 27, 2007 Good Riddance played their last show ever to a sold out crowd in their hometown of Santa Cruz. This set list reads more like a greatest hits album, mixing the best of the band's 12+ year career.

Ghostface Killah - Wallabee Champ
Ghostface Killah is one of the most supreme talents to pick up a mic, ever. A member of the hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, he takes his name from the main villain in the film Ninja Checkmate. After Wu-Tang Clan achieved breakthrough commercial success in the early 90s, Ghostface, like his clan-mates, began a solo career which turned out to be one of the most critically and commercially successful solo careers of all the group members. This is a collection of rarities and non-album cuts that span his entire career. Guests include Wu Tang Clan, Raekwon, Beanie Siegel, Styles P, Prodigy, Jadakiss, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Method Man and more.

Cavalera Conspiracy - Inflikted
Long awaited from the brothers who brought you SEPULTURA!

Manitou - No Signs of Wisdom
Already a decade alive, saluting this with the third full-length album "No Signs Of Wisdom", Finnish traditional heavy metallers Manitou are back stronger than ever with their most powerful and compact effort so far.

Degradead - 'Til Death Do Us Part
Swedish melodic death metal. Produced by a team - calling themselves "H.O.R.D.E", mixed and engineered by Bjrn Gelotte and co-engineering by Jesper Strmblad (In Flames) and Daniel Svensson.

Panic At The Disco - Pretty. Odd.
Looks like they've dropped the exclamation point.

Elf Power - In a Cave
Elf Power's ninth album, In A Cave, blasts them past familiar territories and lands them on exciting new terrain. One of their most psychedelic records, it offers thirteen otherworldly tracks of chugging Krautrock rhythms, sing-song pop, and harmonically dense balladry. With In A Cave these seasoned indie rockers find the perfect synthesis of their organic live performances, instinctual ensemble playing and open-hearted experimentation.

Plants and Animals - Parc Avenue
Parc Avenue is the hotly anticipated full length debut from Montreal trio Plants and Animals, a sprawling opus that owes as much to Nina Simone's rockingest moments as it does to the epic sound of Montreal contemporaries Arcade Fire (whose Sarah Neufeld appears as a guest on the album). From classic seventies guitar tones to folky ballads and sea shanties-turned-post-rock, Parc Avenue is a momunental release in the sense of rock and roll re-invented.

N.Y.H.C. DVD
N.Y.H.C. is the first feature length documentary to explore the New York Hardcore music scene. Drawings its roots from punk rock, hardcore evolved into a dedicated, self contained movement, unconcerned with success in the mainstream. The documentary follows seven bands in the summer of 1995, ranging from Bronx inner city youth to Long Island suburbanites to Hare Krishna devotees. N.Y.H.C. is a surprisingly in depth and non exploitive look into a vital and often neglected music community.

Newly available on LP:

Destroyer - Trouble in Dreams
