Joan of Arc - Boo Human
The combination of fourteen musicians whose previous collaborations include Wilco, Iron & Wine, Bonnie Prince Billy, Beth Orton, and Prefuse 73 yields a truly diverse record that's as intense as it is intimate. Marked by intricate guitar melodies, non-cognitive wailing, and tense instrumentals, "Boo Human" is Joan Of Arc's most accessible, cohesive album since 1997's "How Memory Works".
The National - Virginia EP/A Skin, A Night
"A Skin, A Night" is a documentary about THE NATIONAL by French filmmaker Vincent Moon. It follows the band during the creation of their acclaimed 2007 release Boxer and was filmed in the summer of 2006. It is an insightful and beautiful glimpse into the band's creative process. The DVD is packaged with a separate disc, The Virginia EP, which contains 12 tracks of demos, a cover, live versions, a radio session, and b-sides.
Scarlett Johansson - Anywhere I Lay My Head
Scarlett Johansson completely reinterprets a slew of Tom Waits songs on this very unique covers album. Featuring production by David Sitek of TV on the Radio and appearances by Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), David Bowie and members of Celebration.
The Dresden Dolls - No, Virginia
Brand new collection of songs! They've toured for almost 2 years, have opened for NIN, Panic at the Disco and more!
Mudhoney - The Lucy Ones (CD and LP)
The band's eighth full-length album. Deliberately and aggressively raw, it sounds as lean and as full-on as any modern equivalent one cares to mention. Recorded in a scant three and a half days, written and recorded "from the rhythm up" instead of from the riff and lyrics down. The effect is to thrust out the bottom-end rumble of drummer Dan Peters and bassist Guy Maddison, and to bring about a cohesive whole not entirely ruled by the almighty riff.
Islands - Arm's Way
Montreal's Islands flower from the same scene that gave us Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade. Their Anti debut finds them in full command of a palette of classic pop colorings, from the 70s rock heroics of "The Arm" to the slinky cinematic pop of "I Feel Evil Creeping In".
Mc Chris - Is Dead
mc chris, from Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Sealab 2021 and the upcoming Cheyenne Cinnamon and the Fantabulous Unicorn of Sugar Town Candy Fudge, self releases his fifth cd, "mc chris is dead." loaded with more songs than any previous disc, the songs also features comedy skits which makes it a indie rap/comedy album hybrid unlike any other. some of the topics covered on the record are ninjas, pizza, super powers, and masturbation. the record also features cameos by jenny owen youngs and andrew wk. produced by andrew futral of The Age of Rockets
Christine Fellows - Nevertheless
With FOUR STAR reviews for Nevertheless in Spin Magazine and Bust Magazine, the fourth album from writer/composer Christine Fellows takes its name from a poem by legendary spinster and celebrated poet, Marianne Moore, and is anchored mainly in her life and work. Nevertheless is a beautiful macramé of sound that explores spinsters, pigeons, prize-fighters, and the power of art.
Mates of State - Re-arrange Us
On this release, the duo move beyond their trademark wall of sound with additional instrumentation, including lush strings, guitar, and horns to back up their already honed melodic songwriting.
Windsor for the Derby - How We Lost (CD and LP)
Their seventh album resonates in a personal way with the band. These songs are reflections on the records that WFTD consistently re-visit: Swell Maps, Section 25, Psychic TV, and much of the Factory Records catalog. It's about the band and how they've changed over the years; the things they hold on to and what's been left behind.
Indian Jewelry - Free Gold!
Their first full-length in almost two years is their most scathing. Dirty hooks, shape shifting grooves, and a lot of attitude.
Beatallica - All You Need is Blood
This release is the result of a worldwide Beatalli-Banger Blood Bath initiative where fans transcribed "All You Need Is Blood" into their native language and submitted back to the band to record. Contains 14 different language versions.
Osorezan - Mimidokodesuka (LP only)
Recorded live at the Pit Inn in Tokyo during a 2005 residency.
