H2O - Nothing to Prove
H2O's "Nothing To Prove" is not a comeback. This is an album that seemed like it was always in progress over the last seven years as the members started families, hit the road with other projects and split locales from LA and NYC. H2O has come together and found their voice with more strength, excitement and energy than ever.
Shai Hulud - Misanthropy Pure
In the five years since their last full-length, Shai Hulud have acquired a new vocalist and new label, this time offering up a full-length through Metal Blade. "Misanthropy Pure" is the product of extreme attention to detail, with the band expanding on their signature melodic metalcore sound with off-kilter time signatures and plenty of bitter lyrics.
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Lie Down in the Light
Bristling w/ guitar strings & laced w/ harmonies, this is the brightest album to date from the Bonnie ‘Prince.’ Brisk tempos skip among his signature slower numbers & ballads. His vocals are among his most expressive: carefully nuanced, singing all up & down his range, showing him at a judiciously dynamic & tuneful apex. Coloring the sound is a subtle backdrop of percussive slaps & shakes (but NARY A DRUMKIT), touches of keys & steel, delicate harmony-vocal arrangements & other sweet surprises that might send some sad-sack fans back to their auto-erotic dungeons, fresh toys in hand.
Mogwai - Young Team
2 CD Remastered Deluxe Edition of 1997 album includes a bonus disc with nine additional tracks of sessions, unreleased tracks and live cuts.
Spiritualized - Songs in A&E
Inevitably, perhaps what certainly seemed a setback when main man J. Spaceman was struck with a serious illness instead served as inspiration, resulting in this 18 track opus lead by the first single "Soul On Fire".
From a Second Story Window - Conversations
From a Second Story Window return with their long awaited third release, Conversations. Their most honest and sincere record to date, the album showcases the band simultaneously at their heaviest and most melodic points.
36 Crazyfists - The Tide and Its Takers
36 Crazyfists is evidence that there's a beauty in isolation, a newfound purpose from even the worst of tragedies, and that heavy metal and hard rock music don't have to be all doom and gloom to have power. Now an integral part of the ever-expanding Ferret Music family, 36 Crazyfists recorded their new album, "The Tide And Its Takers," with guitarist Steve Holt at the helm and the legendary Andy Sneap at the mixing boards, which promises to turn even more heads than before. The band's patented twists and turns, which already earned them favor amongst fans of bands like Thursday and Thrice, ensure that none of it sounds contrived, copied or otherwise rehashed from other bands.
